Pedestrain struck by cyclist last week taken off life support

I just found out that Jessie McFarlin, the man who was struck by a cyclist and hospitalized last week, was removed from life support last Sunday at the request of his family:

The cyclist was not charged due to the fact that he was obeying all traffic laws and stopped to render aid as soon as he struck Mr. McFarlin. My thoughts go out to everyone involved in this tragedy. Be safe, y'all.

This was my reply on that blog, and I think I will shut it off so I don't get sucked into any meaningless arguments.

Yet another death with anti-cycling sentiment.

If we die on the road we deserved it, if we hit someone else we are a menace.

and yet some would deny the prejudice against cyclists exists.

I think it is summed up here:

"I'm sorry if you commute to work or wherever by bicycle and you feel picked on (insert crying baby photo here), but STOP IT you idiots! PLEASE! You're endangering everyone around you!!!
Let's get some real hardnosed Texas republicans on this legislation! Bikes do not belong on roads!!!"

One thing that pisses me off about everything I've read regarding this incident is the mention that the person crossing the street wasn't in the crosswalk. Really? Is that all it takes to decide fault? To me that's kinda like the helmet argument. Maybe the guy wasn't looking both ways, maybe he just erratically rushed out into the street, but blaming it on a crosswalk is stupid. Of all the times any of us have crossed the street, how many have we actually gone and found a crosswalk to facilitate us?

It is always sad to hear about someone passing, especially because of a cyclist. The hating on cyclist has already begun with that article. I don't understand why people always have to bash on us. It is not like he was in the wrong, and what if it was a car that hit him doing 25-30? would they act/feel the same way towards the motorist? probably not.
