Roller Racing @ Mellow Johnny's - This Weekend!
Got this forwarded to me from a member of the TXBRA forums (that's roadies to all of y'all):
Rapha Roller Racing 4/11-12 @ Mellow Johnny's, Austin posted by Mellow Johnnys on 7/9/2008 9:52:00 PM.
On Saturday July 12, from 7pm-12am the Rapha Roller Racing: International Series returns to US soil for the first time since the Handmade Bicycle Show in Portland.
Holding the races at Mellow Johnny's, the event is expected to be one part Fight Club, one part Triplets of Belleville. Racers compete in groups of four, riding fixed-gear bikes with the fork bolted down and the rear wheel attached to a giant clock that displays each rider's progress around a 500 meter "track." With the energy of some of Texas' strongest teams, DJ Prince Klassen, insane announcing, and limitless pageantry, this should prove to be a night to remember for racers and spectators alike.
Ten teams composed of the fastest riders in Texas have already been selected. There will also be two, four-person wildcard teams composed of the fastest individuals from the qualifiers that will be held Friday, July 11. Come by Mellow Johnny's any time between 4PM to 8PM and see if you have what it takes to be part one this incredible spectacle of cycling insanity and a chance to win an IRO track frame, a Rapha jersey, and the Rolleur Photo Annual.
Racing and spectating is FREE - there is NO door charge.
Adult beverages will be available, so please, 21 and over only.Mellow Johnny's website: http://www.mellowjohnnys.com

Sounds like a fucking AWESOME event. Free cover, bike racing, booze, and an IRO track frame as the prize. The qualifiers are on Friday so get down there and see if you've got what it takes.
I heard Cloyd got 8th, what did the rest of the field look like?
I saw a $10 cover to watch the roller-ing:

The best substitute for good manners is fast reflexes.
If the guys from Mellow Johnny's are saying it's free on a roadie forum, that's good enough for me. I'm sure it'll work out in our favor, if they try to charge me at the door I'll bring up the TXBRA forum. ;)
