Social Cycling ATX presents: Monday Heavy Metal Fitness Ride - DO IT FOR DIO!
Ladies and gentlemen, yesterday morning one of the true greats of Heavy Metal passed away:
Ronnie James Dio 1942 - 2010
With that in mind, maybe we should all mourn his passing with a brief moment of MAYHEM during tonight's Heavy Metal Fitness Ride:
To all the riders wondering if we were rolling last week. Yes. We were. We did. Well, I didn't... but yes, the ride rode. This week we have our shit together (ha!) and are officially posting the ride again. So... without further ado... The Heavy Metal Fitness Ride rides again!
Here's how it works
Two classes of riders. Slayer class and Black Sabbath class. Slayer class a bit faster. Black Sabbath a bit slower but still pretty quick.
The ride departs the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge this Monday at 7:30 pm. Sharp. Expect a reasonably fast pace, covering 24 miles on an urban route in the dark. After, we'll visit the Jackalope and enjoy free beer, heavy metal madness, half-priced pizza and happy hour ($2.00 wells) all damn night.
Ride what brung ya. Road, touring, mountain, bmx, cruzer, fixie, whatever. Metal Fitness is an equal opportunity ride and not limited to roadies.
You’ll need to bring water, lights, tube changing necessities, a lock, your id and *TIP MONEY* if you’re drinking. You might even check the route map. I wear a helmet and recommend you do too as the ride is fast and in the dark. No banging your head during the ride.
***Study the route or be doomed to wander South Austin til the end of time.

I just don't think silence would be fitting. 7pm on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge, the ride leaves at 7:30. Don't be late, and remember to throw the goat for the man who introduced us to the gesture.
Goodbye Dio. You fucking rocked.
Update: Turns out The Jackelope is going to be running a Dio Tribute Night all evening long, with music from the master and themed drink specials. Get on it.
I saw him live at Dallas convention center in 81
