Cyclidactyls present: Blanco campout trip - 3 days of AWESOME!
Richard of the Cyclidactyl BC sent me the info about a ride and event happening this weekend. Most of y'all know about the big Real Ale Ride happening this weekend which I haven't mentioned on here for the reasons I don't do that shit*, well the Cyclidactyls are hosting a badass sounding trip to go along with it that includes heading to Blanco, hanging out for a couple days at a place there, and partying it up as the riders come in. Check it out...
hey everyone! rich here of cyclidactyle b.c. as you all know the real ale ride is comin up on the 22nd in blanco. what you dont kno is im from blanco and my mom has a badass place there made for good party times. so i started thinkin shit man lets have a camp out from the 21st to the 23rd, sounds good right? so heres the details, if you wanna register for the ride do so soon, i think its still 50 bucks and you get a lot of fun things that go along. if not just come out for the fuckin party and cheer the riders on and get wasted with my moms old folks. if you do register the packet pickup is at the sport shop on lamar on the 21st morn then we trailer bikes and camping gear to blanco for fun time. if you do not have transportation chris fowler is taking his truck and i am going to take mine, you can hitch a ride with us. all you need are the usual camping things, tent, sleeping bag, and a bunch of other stupid shit. oh and dont forget to bring a towel. there is a shower there for all you city folk and port-a-johns, otherwise we have a sweet river that runs threw blanco. for anyone who is going to drive, there is plenty of parking and space. directions are easy as shit.....just go south west on 290 (follow the johnson city signs) all the way till you get to the end. the cross road is 281, take that south about 5 miles to blanco. do not blink you will pass it up. once you enter blanco there is only one light, the cross road is 1623. take a right going west about 3 miles and look for a road named mckinney loop. thats going to be on the right hand side, take it. follow mckinney loop for a mile and you will see a black gate with some crazy stuff to let you know your here. oh its on the left side of the road. heres a map for the dummies who cant take simple instructions. jk about the dummie thing. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl mostly everything is provider, food, drinks, and many others but feel free to byo-alcohol and other booze or any other fun things. one more thing, dogs are more then welcome, its a fully fenced property so bring the pooches if you like. if anyone has any questions about any thing else just drop me a line. my email is richardketay@gmail.com or just shoot me a text or call at 512 749 6098. you can also find me on facebook.
There'll be plenty of riding around down there for all y'all bikers if you hitch up with Chris and Richard, and it's really close enough to ride out to if you're adventurous. Give 'em a call if you want to go so they know you're coming.
* Jason's rules of event posting: I don't advertise events over $10 ($15 if you're REALLY bringing a good event) or rides that require helmets. I don't like posting "exclusive" events but I'll make exceptions for fixed gear/single speed only events, as unlike mountain bikers or roadies every other site they have in town sucks balls and never updates. (sorry fellas, but prove me wrong.) I DO advocate volunteerism, which you can do here for the Real Ale Ride. Get on it, they could use your help.
Personally, I'd say those rules are too rigid -- you're gonna break 'em sooner or later when something comes up that's awesome and yet $20.
I'd suggest a "good/bad/ugly" setup where the goods need to outweigh the bads, and any uglies mean it better be REALLY good. Suggested ideas --
GOOD
----
The event itself is free.
Free stuff -- beer, prizes, food.
Counter-culture (it's more fun if you're being a bit bad.)
Happens at night or continues into the night (the best rides are at night!)
Music (bonus points if the music is mobile and on a bike!)
The event is small and informal.
The event is at least somewhat social, rather than simply riding.
Simply being awesome counts as a "good".
BAD
---
Commercial. If it's explicitly making somebody else money, that makes it less fun.
Paperwork/registration to deal with.
It's likely to be a spandex-fest.
Police escort/closed streets.
Events exclusive to one type of bike or rider.
Costs more than $10.
UGLY
----
Helmets required.
Waivers required.
I never said I always followed the rules. ;)
It's nice to have rules (guidelines?) set out, so if somebody is setting up an event they know what's good and what's not up front!
Though in retrospect, I think I've put way too much thought in this. If it sounds lame, I just won't show up! :) (Though I wish that was the only reason I didn't show up!)
