Austin on 2 Wheels - Weekly Thursday Ride
I just saw this posted to the forums page a few days ago:
Austin On 2 Wheels is a local organization formed this summer that is going to promote riding bikes, whether for recreation, commuting, or sport! We are also going to have a weekly ride to Buda every Thursday. We will meet on the pedestrian bridge at 6 PM Thursday afternoons. This ride does have some hills and is around 30 miles. We will stop in Buda at Historic Stagecoach Park, rest, then turn around. It takes about 3 hours; 2 hours there, 1 hour back.
If you have any questions you can email me at Nate@austinon2wheels.org
Hope to see you out there!
I know lots of you are looking for some more regular rides to attend (besides the less-organized mass/pub crawl rides), so if you're feeling up for a moderately paced 30 miles, why not check this one out.
Success.
Yeah it was warm, and a pretty good distance too, but I think most people who ride even semi regularly could keep the pace. It ended up taking about 3.5 hours with breaks.
YOU DON"T NEED A ROAD BIKE. We had Road bikes, Hybrids and even a single speed Electra cruiser. No one got left behind..
Hey everyone, I got alot of emails about the Thursday ride and I just wanted to clear up a few things.
# 1 - We are riding for the fun of riding, this isn't going to be a drinking party. We have plenty of rides for that, we all love them. :D
# 2 - Helmets are NOT required. Everyone is responsible for their own safety! Though I recommend lights for when it gets dark!
#3 - Yes, we will have rest stops. We will rest up and re-hydrate and get back on the road.
#4 - Road bikes are NOT required. If you think you can ride a bit faster than the moonlight cruise or critical mass then you can keep up with us. It's not a race. This is a great ride for people who want to try and go a farther distance and/or get out of town for a couple of hours.
#5 - Bring water, you will want it. Once we get out of town some people are nice enough to let us use their water hoses, but you never know!
I hope that doesn't deter anyone from coming, this is an awesome ride and is alot of fun!!! Hope to see you all out there this Thursday.
