Bicycle Advisory Council hosts the Austin Police Department at this Thursday's meeting
As always, the Bicycle Advisory Council is meeting the third Thursday of the month (tomorrow) but this time around there's something special happening. Here's what Tom Wald (chairman of the BAC) has to say about it:
This Thursday, August 19th, 6:30pm, David Walker of the Austin Police Department will be making his inaugural quarterly visit to the Austin Bicycle Advisory Council. In the past, the LOBV and ACA have hosted Meet The Chief (Art Acevedo). Now the LOBV is bringing the APD to the bicycling community on a more regular basis (umm... at meetings, not on the street). Sergeant Walker will be bringing the first quarterly data on bicycle collisions (with motorists) and citations. The BAC is an excellent forum for reporting this information, since the bicycling citizenry can provide feedback on what more information is needed and can offer their unique perspectives on collisions.
This direct action by the League of Bicycling Voters is another example of how we are ensuring that the 2009 Austin Bike Plan will be implemented on time. (Action Item 3.0.4)
These meetings are open to the public, so if you'd like to ask an APD rep questions on cyclists issues directly, this would be a great opportunity for it. Swing by One Texas Center, floor 8 conference room, tomorrow night at 6:30pm. It'll be a good time.
