Social Cycling ATX presents: Thursday Night Social Ride - A ride with a reason?!? Wacky...
Tomorrow night Keith is taking us out on another weekly TNSR ride, but this time around there's a little bit more to it than usual:
Ok fellow Social Cyclists, this Thursday Night Social Ride is going to be one NOT to miss. Seriously. We are going to ride our bikes, we are going to get wet on a huge inflatable slip and slide, we are going to have a DJ dance party courtesy of the badasses of the Table Manner Crew AND WE ARE COLLECTING MUCH NEEDED SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR KIDS WHO COME FROM FAMILIES THAT CAN'T AFFORD THEM. All this while enjoying $1 Lonestar beers a...ll damn night. Read below for the nitty gritty (except for you JK, just text me as usual in the middle of the ride).
WHERE AND WHEN: We meet by the river (north side) under the I-35 Bridge just East of the highway in a really nice spot with trees, tables and plenty of space to chill out. We meet at 7:30 and take off and ride our BIKES at 8 sharpish. I leave earlier than my esteemed colleague, Clarence so don't be late... or at least too late.
WHAT: First off, this is a school supply drive for kids who can't afford the materials they need to learn. Bring those #2 pencils, pens, protractors, backpacks, erasers, crayons, glue, paste, magic markers, dictionaries, notebooks, paper, or anything else y'all needed to get your learn on. By doing this you will be not only saving yourself a bit of dough at the door, but doing the right thing. So EVERYONE bring something the kids they can use in this coming up school year.
Ok, now the party details. My good friend Aaron Miller, who helped me put this event on has called this ":The Throwback VS Social Cycling ATX" .
I take this as a challenge. The DJ's will have the power of the turntable and that booty bouncing music, the cyclist will have the power of the swim suit(or lack there of) and slip and slide. We will see who wins this showdown.... oh we will see. Club Deville(http://www.clubdeville.com/) is kindly selling us some Texas Tapwater (Lonestar) all night long for a buck a beer. Thanks, Deville! If you bring school supplies you get in free. If not, you gotta cough up a buck at the door. How much is a pack of pens? Do the right thing, y'all.HOW: Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST IT. Treat your fellow Social Cyclists as well as all of the other folks we are sharing the road with with some Texas hospitality. Be nice. We are all here to have fun. It's not a race, it's not a political event, it's not a protest... it's a damn good time. Listen to your ride leaders. They are all fine folks and have your safety and fun in mind.
WHAT YOU NEED: LIGHTS LIGHTS LIGHT (Front and Back), a lock, slip and slide uniform (up to you), TIPS for those bartenders and most importantly this week... SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR KIDS WHO NEED THEM.
This is going to be a blast. Riding bikes, getting wet and doing good. We've all done it before but it's like a good guy John Acker said "I haven't had an original idea since '92." Probably goes for me too. To that I say... if it aint broke, don't fix that shit.
See everyone with school supplies in hand on Thursday.
Let's ride some damn bikes and have some fun.
BRING THEM SCHOOL SUPPLIES! It's a good cause, it'll make you feel warm and fuzzy and c'mon, they're hooking you up with dollar beers. A few #2 pencils and some notepads are the least you can do...
Oh yeah, here's a flyer for the show afterward:
