"Alonso's Mirror" damaged, but the city WILL replace it.

Anybody who has ridden the LAB between Caesar Chavez and 3rd St. has seen the INCREDIBLY useful safety mirror at the blind corner near the 3rd St. ped bridge:

This mirror was pretty much the work of one single advocate named Alonso Txirrindulari. It was a much needed feature, and with a lot of letter writing and tenacity he got the city to install it. As of a week or so ago, the mirror was knocked down due to the torrential storms that whipped through Texas during that time. Thankfully some people followed up with the CoA bike/ped program folks, and according to them a new mirror was "on order" and it would be replaced as soon as they receive it. THANKS y'all! Just another reason why we have the best city staff around.

Where was the park department resistance to foolish blind corner design? A child could have seen the problem during the design phase. We know Alonso's name, but who are the fools that designed and signed off on the ramp's design?

I stopped to try and put it back on...the top bracket was busted, but mirror was still intact. Could have been the storm or vandalism. Regardless, like you do with all vandalism, you keep on putting it back and hoping that it will make it through a long stint before something happens again. The resistance to Alonso's mirror idea, by the way, was from park dept. officials who said it would get vandalized.

The Friday before the storm it was up, and the Tuesday after the storm it was down, so I'm gonna guess it was the storm.

It's been longer than a week, and it wasn't the weather -- it was pretty obviously vandalism. (Unless the weather ripped it off it's pole, then rammed it onto the pole. Hmm, that sounds dirty!)

Not sure, but I think I noticed it destroyed even before all the storms (but didn't take a picture of it at the time.)

I submitted a ticket on it with the 311 system that day, never heard anything back about it.
