So the folks out at the Dirt Derby have canceled tonight's races, but NEVER FEAR, as thanks to the usual suspects you'll get to drink AND race tonight nonetheless:

We're too wet to race tonight, so instead we're partying at the Bicycle Sport Shop Central Location (517 S. Lamar). A keg of beer provided by The Peddler Bike Shop, slow races, track stand competitions and then some from 5:00-7:00. Full details at our website, fun times at 5:00.

Free keg, track stand competitions, and a slow race. But what was that I said about ALLEYCROSS? Oh yeah, here it is...

Alleycross tonight after the Dirt Derby cancellation party at Bicycle Sport Shop down south. We roll at 7:00 from the ped bridge to an undisclosed location.

Bring a bike and gear you don't mind getting dirty. 7pm on the bridge for the race. Why does this seem frighteningly similar to last years race happenings? I swear Austin is the only city in the world that cancels its' cyclocross events BECAUSE of mud. I thought dirt and grime was the point!

I don't blame the Dirt Derby for the cancellations. They have a course that simply doesn't work when wet. Unfortunately, city park staff have pretty much ruled out official 'cross races at city parks so we are limited to the few races put on at county parks or other municipalities. It's time to figure something out so we can get the 'cross scene growing here.

I'm down.

You may have seen my ad on Craigslist a while back. I tried to get something started a month or so ago which fizzled out and now where I usually go is still underwater.

Most cities with any sort of CX population have a training ride that rivals a full blown race. Do a search on Boulder Wednesday Worlds if not familiar. After bumming out on the cancellation today, it gave me the incentive to scout a couple different locations for a full blown course.. Walnut Creek, Pflugerville Lake and a couple other secret joints.

99% sure I have the place sorted out now that provides an elite level course. It'd be totally free, all you have to do is show up, maybe throw down some markers and get your shred on. Catch is it's up North in RR which I know doesn't exist for most. but really, come on, it's probably closer than going out to Del Valle, we'd be racing on Sat. morning, and it's free. It will be hard, there will be shit talked, you're probably going to piss yourself a little, and if you win you get nothing than more shit talked about you until the next race.

Hit me up if you're interested at hetmalen at gmail dot com I'd really like to stop messing around with night racing that may/or may not happen. Our only big race is in December and at this rate all of us will likely be pulled off the course first lap.

I'll be headed out one morning this weekend to ride the course would be cool to have some others for input and bounce stuff off of.

Also totally down if someone has a place/idea already in the works. Sorry for the lengthy rant via comments, but this site is probably the best place for this sort of thing.
