End Of Offense

Call me skeptical, but I'd really like to hear another side of the story than the cops. I've seen PLENTY of cops run lights at that or similar intersections, regardless of cross traffic, but I've NEVER seen a cyclist run a red light when a cop was on-coming. Wonder if the cop didn't have his headlights on? That'd make him harder to notice...

I happened to catch the 4 second long mention of it on (i think it was) KVUE which included footage of a patrol car with damage to the front quarter panel. Assuming this was the actual cruiser involved in the incident, the damage looked as if the car had pulled in front of the cyclist who then broadsided it. I ride this intersection on my commute and it is busy but wide and not lacking in visibility. I have heard several conflicting reports about who was going which way on what road, has that been cleared up? There must be photos of the car at least, can we find them? Considering the recent blatant falsification of report in NYC this is definitely deserving of more investigation.

I've been wondering about this myself.

You could probably contact the Community Liaison office at APD (974-4700) and ask them, in your persona as Austin Bike Stuff blogger.

Or send an email to the KEYE reporter that wrote that article and see if she's heard anything else. It's at the top of the article.

<LAME_EXCUSE>I'd do it, but I'm at work and have no access to personal email.</LAME_EXCUSE>

I've already left messages with both but haven't heard anything back yet.

I got the number for the detective on the case, a Mr. Chad Francois: 974-4724. I left a message with him too.

Dude, you rock.

So after being given the runaround I found the person to contact is the following guy:

Don Field - 974-5441

I need to put my request in writing and fax him, then he'll send me a copy of the report itself. It's 10 cents per page, so that's no biggie. I'll let y'all know more when I find out about it.
