Cyclist victim of early-morning hit-and-run
I just saw this posted to the Austin Community on Livejournal:
i got hit by a car on my ride to work this morning. i am okay and my bike is semi-okay. the piece of shit that hit me drove off though, and no one around was able to get his license plate number. i called 911 and they said they'd send an officer out. i waited 45 minutes and ended up flagging down an officer that was driving by. he told me since i was too busy lying on the ground to get the license plate number, there was little chance of anything happening. so i said whatever and went to work.
have any of you been involved in a hit and run? how did you handle it? i was so angry and not thinking straight at the time. should i have filled out a report anyway? i feel like the officer was trying to talk me out of filling one out. and he told me they were in the middle of a shift change - that's why no one had responded to my call until i flagged him down. i thought that was kind of a shitty excuse. thank science i wasn't hurt.
what a shitty morning.
edit: i got hit at congress and 7th around 6:30 a.m. i'm calling 311 to try and file a report. thanks for the advice you guys.
So a cyclist gets hit at 6:30am this morning, and when he finally speaks with a police officer (45 minutes later) the cop tries to talk him out of filing a report about the incident. THANKS OFFICER! It's a good thing the cyclist wasn't seriously injured, or else he may have been dead before the police decided to investigate the incident. "Protect and serve" indeed.
