Cops stepping up ticketing of cyclists.
KEYE did an interesting story about the increase in cycling traffic on the roads as of late. Check it out (specifically the video on the right):

I've only been cycling heavily for about 3 years now but even in that short amount of time I've noticed a vast increase in the number of commuter cyclists on the streets, and anyone who's been to a group ride has seen the massive turnouts we've been getting lately. According to the story, this is creating safety issues and the cops are going to be responding.
What does this mean for us? It sounds like they're going to be VERY vigilant in ticketing illegal behavior, specifically running red lights. This happened last month during Critical Mass; a ticket was given out for corking an intersection. Watch out friends, they're officially out to get us.
P.S. The Full Moon Cruise is tonight, 11:59pm @ the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge. We ride rain or moon shine! And if you have moonshine you're my new best friend.
its legal to ride on the majority of the sidewalks in austin. you cannot ride on the sidewalks on guadalupe from the burgerking to MLK, you cannot ride on congress sidewalks from the capitol to the river or any sidewalk east or west of congress for 2 blocks and most of 6th street down town you cannot ride on.
fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.
I just saw some cops stoping folks riding the sidewalk on Guadalupe by the West Mall, so this is no joke. I told the cop that more folks might ride in the street if the bike lane was repainted, which might mean less people would drive in it.
Tailgating, speeding, making a sandwich while operating 6 tons of steel.
I want to go tonight, but I have to work tomorrow.
We shall see.
That's just crazy talk!
