Social Cycling ATX presents: Thursday Night Social Ride - Putting the RAISE in Fundraiser!
Hey folks, it's that time again: it's motherfucking Thursday! Keith has a whole mess of good times organized for us this time around, including a FREE screening of the classic Kevin Bacon/Morpheus buddy cycling film Quicksilver! Once again at the end of the ride we're hitting up Barbarella and dancing our asses off to that Motown sound...
Hey everybody. This week we are going to do things a little differently. We are riding to a bike-in movie for a free screening of classic eighties cycling movie, Quicksilver (trailer: http://tinyurl.com/5c7bbz)(dance clip! http://tinyurl.com/5jduza), drinking some beer that was kindly given to us by New Belgium (http://www.newbelgium.com/), then taking a long ride around town and finally ending up at Barbarella for a replay of last weeks epic dance party. Also, I want to say after holding fundraisers for other very deserving causes, this week, it's one to help make Social Cycling Austin even better than it is now. It's the Social Cycling Austin FUN-raiser this week. More details below.
ROUTE: http://tinyurl.com/2aafex2
WHERE AND WHEN: At our usual meeting place of Festival Beach (map: http://is.gd/g05j7). We meet on Thursday at 7pm and leave shortly after 7:30. If you are late just meet us at Blue Starlite Drive In (http:/starlite.artfilmfood.com/) to watch the movie and have some beers.
WHAT: Our first real fundraiser. Why are we doing this? Social Cycling Austin has held over 200 events for over a year and a half now with no budget. We hope you have thought that they have been awesome. We think we can do even better.
The vision is:
- rental of venues that are not available for free
- events like bbq's and trips to the lake with boats, to trips out of town for some riding to free bowling are just a few possibilites
- tubes, patch kits and tools for our riders for in-ride breakdowns (also a mechanic)
- a taxi fund for impaired riders (be that mechanically or mentally)
- a new website that will be a huge resource for cyclists here in town
- a library of books, videos, magazines etc for anyone that wants to check them out.
- maybe some toys to play with... and a few other things.
Like this? Then chunk what you can at the donation box for the free kegs at the movie.
HOW: Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and not against it. We stop at all red lights, let cars pass as best we can and yield the right of way when it is the right thing to do. We are cool to all of our fellow riders as well as the other traffic with which we share the road. LISTEN UP TO YOUR RIDE LEADERS! They have your fun and safety in mind. Plus they are some nice people.
WHAT YOU NEED: LIGHTS, LIGHTS, LIGHTS, LIGHTS, a lock, an ID if you plan on going to the after party plus some money for TIPS and beverages. A helmet is ALWAYS a great idea, but I will leave that up to you. You are responsible for your own safety on the Thursday Night Social Ride.
See everyone at the beach!
They're trying to raise some bucks for the Social Cycling cause this week, so if you're down for what they do every single Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and many of the days in-between not to mention the free hand they give multiple bike events and organizations around town, then bring that fat wallet and give them a bit of cash money lovin'. 7pm at Festival Beach. 11pm(ish) at Barbarella. Party till you puke, then clean yourself up and keep partying.
