Via Austin.Cadence: AustinBikes suffers 4 burglaries in 4 months!
Several days ago Ali over at Austin.Cadence clued us in to a story he wrote concerning multiple break-ins that have happened at AustinBikes over the past four months, costing the owners of the business over twenty five thousand dollars in stolen merchandise and damages.
Late last night the local Fox affiliate picked up the story and ran with it, gaining wider exposure for this amazing locally-owned and operated bike shops plight, but here's what a cyclist (Ali) has to say about the situation:
1213 W. 5th. What once used to be a an empty space for rent now houses one of Austin’s finest bike shops: Austin Bikes. Sol, Eric, Sam and Scott. These four men provide some of the finest service in town. Whether it’s road, mountain or commuting…they’ve got what you need. They cater to every cyclist under the sun without the slightest bit of attitude. I could sit here and do a write up about how fantastic this bike shop is but that’s not what my purpose is here today.
In the last few months Austin Bikes has fallen victim to FOUR separate break-ins. Thousands of dollars in damage and bikes have been suffered. There still has yet to be a shred of evidence linking anyone to these crimes. As a close friend of the shop as well as a team member of their elite race team I feel compelled to do my part in trying to bring those responsible for these break-ins to justice. If you know anything…anything at all about what’s been happening at the corner of W. 5th and Orchard please contact myself or Sol. If you prefer to remain anonymous please call the shop.
To the person(s) that is(are) carrying out these crimes…you do you understand you’re robbing someone of their livelihood right? You’re the scum of the earth. Instead of getting a job and working like most folks you prefer to rip off hard working people. YOU WILL BE CAUGHT. YOU WILL PAY DEARLY.

Thanks for looking out for the community Ali. Sol is taking measures to better secure his shop and catch the perps if they act again, but to this point they don't have much to go on regarding the dozen bikes that have already been stolen. If anybody knows anything about this please pick up the phone or write an email. A lot of hard working folks would really appreciate it.
