I recieved two emails within minutes of each other that I wanted to share. First up is the report of a recovered bicycle! If y'all remember a few days back (I know it's hazy) Bryce had his BMX stolen from Clowndog. Well thanks to the efforts of one Brad Brad Brad Brad Brad Brad Bradley the bike has been RETURNED:

Jason, thank you so much for aiding the recovery of my ride. My bike was found yesterday afternoon downtown and was returned without incident. Unfortunately the fella that bought it from the homeless guy is out $100, lesson learned about buying stolen bikes. Once again thanks a million to everyone involved and everyone that kept their eyes peeled. Big up B Rad for the find! RECOVERY BITCHES! Feels good.

Fuck yeah y'all. And it sucks to be out $100 bucks, but it sucks more to buy stolen bikes!

Now this next email is somewhat perplexing. I know lots of bikes go missing on a near-daily basis, but entire BIKE RACKS??? And from an elementary school?!? Read on for more strangeness sent to my by Rob D'Amico, who if you don't know is a bicycle advocacy dynamo and all around badass dude:

This is the strangest thing I've heard in awhile. Mathews Elementary on West Lynn in Clarksville only had two bike racks, which finally have become overcrowded. Alonso, myself and Chad Crager (new to the COA Bike/Ped program) all have our kids at the school and we worked to secure approval for three new racks, which were hopefully scheduled for setup in the next three weeks.

But alas, with word of the good comes word of the strange. The existing bike racks disappeared before school started yesterday. The principal and Chad have contacted numerous people at AISD as well as COA and no one knows what happened to the racks! The only thing left are the bolts embedded in the concrete. Chad thinks they may have been easier to remove because the bolts might not have been destroyed as they usually are to prevent thefts.

Posts have gone out to the Mathews and neighborhood listserv, and a report was filed with APD. Meanwhile, Chad has called AISD, which will put in five new racks in the next few weeks. Until that time, an old beaten up portable rack that was on the side of the school will have to due.

Here's a photo of the location, with my son's green bike locked up. Thanks for the memories Google!

Fucking weird. Thanks for the heads-up Rob! Hopefully the kids'll get their racks back sooner rather than later.

I've heard more stories lately of bike racks disappearing or people trying to sell bikes from a flat bed trailer with the bikes still locked to the rack! It takes balls to lift a bike rack from the street, but the payoff is big and how many regular citizens would call something like that in to the police? Even if they did, chances are these crooks can scoop up a rack in under 10 minutes.

Go Brad! It's always nice to hear about those sadly not-too-often bike recoveries.

By the way Brad, how the fuck do magnets work?
