Hi
This was my first Moonlight Cruze and I had mixed feelings which leaned toward the positive. I really had a good time this morning and look forward to doing more rides in the future.
It was fun but the annoying element was also present. The above mentioned idiot with fireworks and the car blocking. I'm a huge proponent of public transportation and no cars in cities (especially no petroleum!) but the Critical Mass style car blocking wasn't the best of ideas.
People in Austin think they have it so bad as far as safe streets and cycling infrastructure but it's the best city I've ever ridden in. I currently live in San Antonio which is a little better than where I used to live (until April 2008) in NYC. It was about equal to Connecticut before that, maybe a little worse. I haven't owned a car in years.
There is always room for improvement of course.
Enough with the negative, the ride was fun. I loved all of the different people, the sheer amount of them, the occasional nudity, the kids in BMX gear, the one and only tall bike, the three tandems ( or more?) the two music bikes ... it was a blast.
Austin has the cutest girls I've ever seen and the craziest bike culture, I love Austin and I hope it stays weird forever.
I have wrote a blog entry and have photos (or will have) of the ride here:

theres fireworks on that ride every year. just be thankful it didnt turn into a roman candle war like some years in the past. the fire works are stayin.
fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.

Some idiot brought fireworks, and was shooting them off. I guess he hasn't learned lesson 1 on how not to attract the attention of the police.
