Full Long Night Moon Ride - Monday night!
Full Long Night Moon Cruise happens tomorrow night. Doug says it, we do it:
It's the last Full Moon Ride of 2010! The Full Moon officially happens at about 2:15am 12/21 CST, so that means we can catch it if we start the ride Monday night, 12/20 at 11:59pm.
The December full moon is called the Oak Moon, Cold Moon, Frost Moon, Long Night's Moon, and the Moon Before Yule. Either way, we hope you're out there riding with us!
"During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun."
Be at the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge Monday night. 12/20, at 11:59pm. We ride about 30 minutes later. Considering that it's a few days before Christmas, holiday themes may be appropriate -- wear your Santa suit, dress your bike up in Christmas lights, pull a trailer full of presents for all your biking friends, fill your water bottle with egg nog, etc.
Not only that, but at about 12:48 in the AM Tuesday morning (aka about 10 minutes after we leave) we're going to be treated to a nearly-full lunar eclipse. No fucking joke! When this happens I expect all the bike stereos in the mix to be playing the blackest of black metal. It's going to be pretty freaking sweet. And to think just a short millenia ago we'd all be freaking out and worrying about the dragon eating the moon.
As far as I know, it'll be a full eclipse, and it will start right about 12:30am.
