The incident occurred at about 4 a.m. Sunday, and the car’s driver stopped at the scene. Police said it is unclear if the driver will be charged.

Godspeed Christoper. Ride in peace. As usual, the comments section of the aforementioned Statesman article is chock full of nuts. Go there if you need to release some bile, the targets are plentiful. Edit: Nevermind. One of the deceased's family members is on the board, and people are actually toning it down somewhat. Feel free to wish her your condolences as she's obviously reading their comments.
Ugh this is so horrible.
This is scary, I just found out who this guy was; I had a long talk with one of his childhood friends last night. From what he said this was a completely preventable tragedy.
It is super scary, because I was also hit Monday morning about 3am. Hit and run by a white SUV from behind while traveling north on Lavaca at 16th street or so. The car didn't race off, it just kept going leisurely, stopped at the red light at MLK and then turned. I don't think the driver even knew. I ended up going to the ER but thank the bike gods they didn't want both of us that night, so if you haven't seen me around lately that's why.
I only heard the news this evening. I worked with Chris, here in Ottawa, until he moved back to Austin...
What a lovely guy. Such a sad thing.
This totally sucks. I know this guy. Chris was an awesome dude, he loved fitness and fun. once he won a dance contest in south padre. He also liked to ride. fuck. Chris worked at trudy's and had lots of friends. They liked to call him "deez nuts" because his name was Chris D. This was a real person. Now he is gone.
