Keith just got the word out on what's happening tonight on the Thursday Night Social Ride, and if you're paying any attention at all you'll notice this one is something special:

Sorry for the tardiness of this week's announcement... but you already knew we were riding, right!? If it's 110 degrees, we are riding. If it's 5 degrees, riding. If it rains, ride. Snows, ride. If Facebook's servers melt down and you are unable get our weekly invite, we will be riding.

Also, it's going to be cold. Not Donner Party cold, but cold. Dress warmly. Why? Because it's going to be cold.

Ok so let me break down this week's ride/free food buffet/charity ride sign up/dance party/free beer Thursday Night Awesomeness®. This week we are heading over to the The Hill Country Ride for AIDS 2011 Kick-Off Party for some free food, a cash bar and the chance to sign up for this year's Hill Country Ride for AIDS. We will then take off on a nice ride around town, ending at the bar you fools can't seem to stay away from, Barbarella. They are throwing down the TNSR usual...free then cheap beer and will let you stay and dance until very very late.

**SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THE BENEFIT/CHARITY RIDES THIS YEAR (including this one): I'm very very pleased to announce a new Social Cycling Austin program. This year, we will be working with local (and even some regional) benefit rides. In conjunction with each ride/event, Social Cycling Austin will offer a surrogate rider program. Social Cyclers will have the opportunity to be paired with a person that wants to participate in that particular charity ride, but is unable to ride themselves. The Social Cycler will work as a team with the non-riding participant. The rider's duty will primarily be the physical riding and the other participant's will primarily be handling the fundraising. In the end we think it will allow these events to raise more money and offer Social Cyclers the chance to contribute to a good cause by riding their bikes and to participate in cycling events they might not consider otherwise. It's a win/win situation that is good for the community and good for y'all. I will be sending you more information with more details soon. I hope everyone is as excited about this as I am and want to take advantage of this opportunity.

A special thanks to Mike Kaylani for making this happen. Mike will be heading up a portion of our group's outreach programs. He's a real asset to Social Cycling Austin. If you have an outreach idea or belong to an organization that wants to work with Social Cycling Austin, Mike or myself will be the people to help make that happen. You can contact Mike here: http://www.facebook.com/mkaylani and me here: keith@socialcyclingatx.com.

ROUTE: check back. i'm slacking this week.

WHERE AND WHEN: Our winter time meeting place, Plaza Saltillo (map: http://tinyurl.com/26vcmbf) at 7pm. We will hang out for some social time, then take off at around 7:30pm.

HOW: Social Cycling Austin rides AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it. We stop at red lights, yield the right of way and let cars pass as best we can. We are cool to both our fellow riders and the other traffic on the road. Listen up to those volunteers who are helping to lead the ride. They are some nice folks and have your best interest in mind.

WHAT YOU NEED: LIGHTS, LIGHTS, LIGHTS, a lock, a valid ID for the after party and money for TIPS and fun at the after party and warm clothing to cover those bits that get cold while riding a bike.

See everyone at the Plaza!
