Local cyclist and bicycle activist injured, needs help.
I just read on the Austin Ridge Riders facebook page that a local cyclist and activist was injured rather brutally while mountain biking the other night. As it turns out he doesn't have any insurance and needs a bit of help. Read on for Michael's story:
ARR Friends and Fans,
Many of you personally know Michael McMurtray (aka: Calvinsbike on BikeMojo.com) as he hosts the Regular Sunday All-Level Ride at Walnut Creek and also led the bike parade for the past two Tour de Fat Festivals. Michael is a awesome person, a good friend, a phenomenal rider and in important part of the Austin Rodge Riders.. We recently learned that he took a terrible fall last night on what was intended to be a fun rise at the Pfluger Hike and Bike Trail and was transported to the ICU at St. David’s Round Rock. Fortunately, Michael was not riding alone and was, as always, wearing his helmet. Unfortunately, he took a 3-foot drop onto concrete. He suffered a cracked skull, broken scapula, vertebrae (3), ribs (3), nose and multiple facial fractures. He will need surgery on his face and nose.
We are eternally gratefully that he was wearing his helmet and was riding with Matt and Cinnamon Fuller and Jason Hix who knew how to properly respond and convinced him to go to the hospital.
It has now been learned that he does NOT have health insurance. Despite all this, he has his usual never-give-up positive attitude.
Fund raising efforts have been started through Pay Pal and more information is available on BikeMojo. Here is the link to the thread:

The ARR Board has moved the regular monthly meeting to the cafeteria of the hospital where we will take turns visiting Michael as is allowed.
More information will be posted as it becomes available. We ask that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
Rough. Hope you heal up quick man! If you can spare a few bucks or some assistance, follow the above bikemojo link and see what you can do to help.
I love it... because this post not have a Porn link!
