Voter registration deadline.

I know it's not technically "bike related", but with the so-called energy crisis in the news every day cycling is probably going to be a much larger issue over the next two presidential terms.
TODAY is the final deadline for voter registration. We're on the eave of an historic election the likes of which has never been seen before, so make sure you're on the roll and can do your part in November. If not get your ass out there and get registered, suckas!
If you don't vote you're dead to me. I don't even care who you vote for (ALL politicians are crooks and liars, otherwise they wouldn't be in politics), just VOTE.
There are important ballot items that directly affect us by determining how our city grows, how much taxes we pay (renters, too!), and who gets to make those decisions.
Stand up and vote.
The best substitute for good manners is fast reflexes.
... is a historic one. At least that's what we're told.
I don't recall anybody ever saying `This election isn't so important'. No, it's *always* THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION OF ALL TIME!
This is the first time I've gotten to vote for someone who could in any way be considered a "minority", and not a member of the old, rich white guy with a receding hairline club for political tools. It's a fresh perspective that I'm hoping for. I'm not saying Obama or (to a lesser extent) Palin will actually affect things positively or negatively, I'm just looking forward to something DIFFERENT.
We're also in the midst of an unpopular war and an economic crisis, both are problems that the next president will be inheriting and having to deal with. It's not like we're handing off peace and a budget surplus to the next guy, nstead he's having to deal with the last decade of built-up problems. The next 4 years should be very interesting in defining our place on the world stage. I don't think it's going to be "Team America, World Police" for much longer...
Honestly though, I'm expecting more of the same. They are politicians after all, I think you have to trade in your humanity in exchange for the American flag lapel pin that they tend to mark their own with. For the record, both candidates are pants and I don't trust either any further than I can throw them. If these two presidential candidates are the best, brightest, and most qualified people we can find for the job, then it's high time our empire crumbled. What a joke.
