Moving to Austin, Bikability....

I just got a job offer out in Austin. I don't know much about the city besides it's young and hip. I just graduated college myself, so I'm looking for something like that. I currently live in Boston, and ride my single speed everywhere. I don't own a car, and don't quite want to make that investment yet. Is Austin a Bikable city? How big of a deal is it to not own a car? Are there a lot of people riding around on a daily basis? Thanks in advance.

If you live and work reasonably close to downtown, Austin is very bikeable, and lots of people do just that. If you live in the suburbs, it might become a problem -- some of them don't have good bike routes into the center of the city without going way out of your way.
Just so you know, the bus system kind of sucks -- in general, you can bike across town faster than you can take the bus.
I don't know what Boston is like, but Austin is kind of hilly. Not mountainous, but hilly. You might want to trade in your fixie for a bike with gears once you get here -- though there's certainly plenty of people here who power up the hills on their fixies too.
