Different format of swap-meet: Mellow Swap
Check out this swap meet that the people at Mellow Johnny's announced this morning. It's somewhat different than the Frankenbike events in that this one costs vendors money, but it's still free for those looking to buy stuff. Besides the usual suspects there will be several larger vendors (some from out-of-town) with trailers of new stuff to sell or trade. It also has longer hours, running from 9am until 7pm. Here's what they've got to say:
Mellow Swap: Sell Yer Stuff
Hey you.Yeah, you with the garage full of forks, 26" wheelsets, and XTR 8 speed gruppos.
You with the spouse who wants to go on a real vacation.
Come sell your stuff, maybe find a few sweet deals.
MellowSwap
Saturday, November 8. 9AM to 7PM.
Industry reps, teams, riding clubs, collectors, and bling accumulators chance to unload their goods before the winter sets in.
For 50 bucks, you get a 10x10 space, a table and 2 chairs in the Mellow Johnnys parking lot.
Mellow Johnny's will provide free barbeque, free beer, and tunes to keep you entertained and help draw a crowd.
Split a space with a friend. Split it with 100 friends. Its all good.
To reserve your space, email or call Erin at the shop:

Update: I just received an email from Ted, one of the badass Mellow Johnny guys. He explained what'll be going on in a little more detail, so here's a snippet of his email to better explain what the Mellow Swap is gonna be about:
I started trying to organize a collaboration between my co-workers to rent a small space have a garage sale with my co-workers and bunch of my industry friends that were reps. The shop GM said why don't we have it here and he'd put all of the resources of the shop behind it.
Most shops would never allow an industry rep to come sell new sample product in their parking lot but we wanted this to be an "event". A few of the reps used to use Velo Swap in Denver but the travel cost is too high, so Mellow Swap can hopefully be the start of something closer to home for them. We didn't it want to be all outsiders and it needs the Austin vibe to be a success in our eyes, so we capped the number of these guys to make sure that there is enough space for all of local sellers. Regrettably with the cost of the advertising, fliers, food, beer, and table chairs rentals we had to charge a little.
These guys will have racks of clothes with tags, bins of new parts. A couple have so much stuff that they are pulling trailers down. With the strong bike interest here all of these guys LOVE to come to Austin, but can't make it most of the year. The normal Frankenbike shopper will see a lot of stuff they won't see normally and
hopefully leave with lots of deals and appreciative of the effort.
Free food, free beer, music, lots of big vendors with new stuff, the convenience of picking through everyone's junk left over from Frankenbike (2 weeks prior) AND hitting a halfway decent coffee shop without even having to get back on your bike. If nothing else I'll be there for the grub. I may not be a native Texan but I've been here long enough to have it instilled in me that in Texas one never passes a up free BBQ, or a free beer.
Great event! Well everyone surely enjoyed this one! Nice party great people!
