RIP Captain Bike 1944-2008
This last Sunday we lost one of the most important contributors to cycling in my lifetime. He never won a Tour, doesn't hold a time trial record and his name isn't a brand, but nonetheless Sheldon Brown passed on a great legacy. Through his articles and website he's shared an enormous wealth of mechanical and historical information with a whole generation of cyclists. I know I'm not the only one who can say that my bike education started on his website, and whenever I was stumped I'd reference him first. Not only did Sheldon compile the Bible of Quirky Bike Terms (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/glossary.html) but he was incredibly active on numerous bike forms, doling out obscure and always correct information with humility and good humor. His trademark middle names were always great, as was his eccentric bike and clothing choices. I've never met him in person, but I feel this loss nonetheless. My condolences go out ot his family and friends. Ride in peace, Captain Bike.
it's sad to see this man go, he knew his shit. he fought the good fight, but i guess in the end we've all got it coming. it's just sad to see him lost the way he was. godspeed, sheldon.
