November Critical Mass - A ride to be thankful for! - After-party UPDATE!
Critical Mass is less than 6 hours and I'm already excited. Last month we had OVER 400 people show up for this little rolling party of ours, and with the way things are going in this town bike-wise, I have a feeling that this is just the beginning. Friday, November 28th is Mass day, 5pm on the UT West Mall is where it all happens. Bring yourself, your bike, your friends, your family vising from out of town (loan 'em a bike), tunes, beverages, and all the other odds and ends that make Critical Mass what it is in Austin. Unfortunately it's not all happy news, because as of 2 weeks ago I've lost something very near and dear to me...
Yes folks, it's true. Orbnauticus, my state of the art (well, state of last year at least) editing system has gone on to that great scrap heap in the sky. After multiple attempts to revive it including the worlds' first computer-chimpanzee heart transplant, I've finally called the time, read it its' last rites, and sent it off in a burning longboat in a ceremony befitting its one-time greatness.
UPDATE:
I do have something to be thankful for though! I was able to borrow a similar motherboard (that had the same on-board controller), do a basic OS install, and bring my drives back! I successfully backed up all my data so when I build the new machine running I won't be starting from scratch video-wise. Hopefully I'll have it up and running soon, because the Halloween footage from last month is CLASSIC!
I'm pumped about this ride. I've already gotten news of a party planned for afterwards, so stick with the ride 'till the end and see what happens. You've got 6 hours to go so if you need to take care of bidness get it done, get down to the west mall, and be a part of the biggest, loudest, longest-running monthly ride in town! I know a lot of y'all have the day off so the excuses won't hold up. RIDE!
But not all is lost! Well, most of my video masters may be lost (fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck) but a phoenix shall rise from the ashes in the form of a new editing system. In preparation for Orbnauticus' departure I've been putting together the hardware for its' replacement. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get back to editing some videos, and maybe even recovering the data from the previous system. Stranger things have happened. The moral of the story is always backup kids. You never know when malicious computer gremlins will make mincemeat of your ones and zeros.
See you on the ride y'all! I'll probably leave the camera home this time, the wounds are too fresh, but that means I might drag my dog along instead! We'll see.
