Beautiful day in the neighborhood, or out.
If you roll on 2 wheels, chances are life's been good to you lately. In just the past couple weeks there have been swap meets, pub crawls, the full moon cruise, a moontower tour, and even a race for good measure; and if you've looked at the calendar in the past couple days you know there's no sign if it letting up. Hell, I've been struggling to show up to even HALF the events going on these days and I'm having a blast!
Want some good news? Life's about to get even better. Last Thursday I attended the Bicycle Advisory Council's meeting and one of the topics of discussion was the brand spanking new (yet-to-be-released) Austin Bicycle Master Bible... er, plan. Seriously though, this thing is 2 inches thick and chock full of buttery bicycle goodness. Also included in this hallowed tome are a whole bunch of pictures of all of y'all! So much nicer than a bunch of crappy stock photos of models on bikes that haven't even had the reflectors removed. ;)
I don't know if I'm supposed to say this but it was a public forum (anyone's invited to these meetings, not just members) so it can't be that big of a secret: the new version of the bicycle master plan will be available for public consumption December 5th on their plan update website. Keep an eye out, it should be showing up in a couple weeks and I'll definitely let y'all know when I see it. The first big public forum for citizen input will be the Austin Neighborhood's Council meeting on Jan 28th. They'll have hard-copies of the plan on-hand for your perusal.
FINALLY, the bit about how great it is out of the neighborhood. Usually I only cover news and events that go down within the borders of Austin, TX and leave the rest of the world to these guys, but occasionally I'll make exceptions. Those kids down in San Marcos are definitely one of those BIG exceptions. They've got their shit together, hosting races, pub crawls, rides, cranking out videos, and talking maaaaaaad amounts of shit over the internetz (hahahahaha). Seriously, I love what these guys are about even if I also hate on that shit too. I hate everything, it's just how I am. Honestly, what I say either way doesn't really matter, because LOOK AT THIS SHIT!
A flyer like that speaks for itself. Their race happens at 4:30pm today and San Marcos is only 45 minutes away by car if you're slow, so get down there and take a look at bike life outside Austin. Alex was kind enough to provide directions, and the race is free so you can spend those couple extra bucks on more beer (or whatever the hell you edge kids indulge in). It's a team event, so find a partner before going down or they might match you up with a complete douchebag.
Enough blah blah blah-ing, it's BEAUTIFUL out and Walnut Creek is calling my name. Bike time.
