Jingle Ride 2008 - Official and un-official rides
Thanks to Hill Abel of Bicycle Sport Shop, the Jingle Ride lives on! Last year was a catastrophe, with cops not knowing what was going on and not letting in the large majority of the cyclists who showed up for the event. Hopefully this year they've got their act together and do the right thing. Here's the skinny:
Join us, Monday, December 15th for the 2008 Jingle Bell Ride
Where: Cyclists will stage on Toomey Rd. in front of the ball fields. (1510 Toomey Rd.)
When: Staging begins at 5:30pm We will roll out at 6:15pm Sharp
Please note that cyclists may enter the Trail of Lights until 6:45. After that the gate will be closed to cyclists. Cyclists must exit the Trail of Lights by 7.
Join us after your ride for hot drinks and cookies at the MoPac bridge.
If you and a group of your friends would like to continue the ride to to view Austin's Xmas light displays elsewhere you may certainly do so, but it will not be an organized ride with police escort or controlled intersections. Please be sure that you have a white head light and a red rear light that is highly visible (it’s the law kids) and we suggest you wear a helmet and highly visible clothing as well. And of course please observe all the rules of the road so everyone stays safe!
Here is a map and cue sheet of a couple of suggested routes for you to ride if you’re feeling adventurous. If not you’ll be able to ride back to where you started by turning around on Stratford drive and then back to Barton Springs road to town (these roads are closed to car traffic within Zilker Park).
This ride is great for kids of all ages and we encourage you to bring the whole family!
Sounds excellent! I'll definitely be down there, and will be doing the long ride which doesn't look too bad. Remember that the cats of BSS are SERIOUS CYCLISTS, which means their events start on time and not 30 minutes after. Don't be late or you may miss out. Ho ho ho!
Just above freezing, 15 mph winds, significant chance of rain and then freezing rain ...
