UTC's Bike/Ped sub-committee looking at the new Downtown Austin Plan, and you can too!
Tom Wald forwarded this to me, but I wanted to post it here since this affects everyone who lives, works, or plays in the downtown Austin area. The city is updating it's Downtown Plan and they're soliciting public comments. As a bicyclist, here's the best way you can get in on the process:
Hi everyone!
Some of you may not be aware that I was recently appointed to the Urban Transportation Commission by Mayor Wynn. I am now chairing the newly re-activated bicycle and pedestrian subcommittee. There are numerous items that must go before the UTC per the city charter.I wanted to make you aware that this coming Monday, January 26th, the bike/ped subcommittee will be reviewing the Downtown Austin Plan. We are interested in taking public comments; either at the hearing or in writing. You are welcome to send this email to others you think might have an interest.
Details are as follows: Monday, January 26th, 6:00 p.m. at One Texas Center, Room 325
Information about the Downtown Austin Plan can be found here: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/downtown/downtownaustinplan.htm
Best,
Sara Krause
If you want to do your homework beforehand, the first thing you should check out is the CoA page on the subject, as well as their initial Phase I: Issues and Opportunities (4mb pdf) document. Rob D'Amico and the League of Bicycle Voters are also in on the process, and have a Downtown Austin page which provides links to all the Transportation Framework Plan (11mb pdf) documentation, which specifically addresses many of the cycling-related improvments that are being proposed for the downtown area. It's a gripping read, I can assure you.
If you're snappy, you can also get in on this Downtown Austin survey, which they're conducting through tomorrow. It's mainly focused on people who live, work or commute in the greater downtown Austin area so if this is you, take a few minutes and fill it out.
There you go, now you know how you too can be involved in keeping our city from becoming another Dallas. Get on it!
On LinkedIn, she advertises that she worked for Bruce Todd public affairs. The same dude who tried to ram another shot at an all-ages helmet ordinance through, in case you don't remember.
Watch this one carefully.
That's good to know. I figure the more people dedicated to the cause showing up at that UTC sub-committee meeting the better, even if the people who run it aren't necessarily the best intentioned.
