You are hereThere was a longship!
There was a longship!
That ride was freaking AWESOME! No cop harassment, minimal assholeishness from traffic (and massers), and there were LOTS of vikings. Seriously, there were horns, hammers, swords, shields, and even some wacky guy that looked like he stepped out of "Clan of the Cave Bear". You rule Kevin. The ride went smoothly and included several rest stops like Zilker Park, the Capital, the top of a parking garage, and then over to the Radical Dixie Ranch on the East Side. I didn't see any big wrieks on the ride though I heard that later on there was a tall bike crash. Hope you're ok Courtney!
The after-party was great, and the first set of firefighters on the scene were freaking phenomenal. Unfortunately the second set, though just as kind, weren't quite as accomedating and so we had to put the fire out, followed a short while later by the cops telling us we had to take the party inside. I guess thanks to gentrification a bonfire, moonbounce, and amplified music are too cool for that neighborhood now. Motherfucker.
Michael was so kind to have taken a whole gallery of AWESOME pictures from the ride and the party afterwards, and not to be outdone Doug managed to compile a gallery of ALMOST 300 PICTURES of his own. I guess he missed the party but his ride pictures are extensive. 300? Are you freaking kidding me?!? There were a shitton of photographers on this ride so I expect to see more pictures shortly. In the meantime check out a few of my faves:

This guy and his friend wanted to have their pictures taken with me. It was funny. (by Michael)

My favorite way to see Austin. From a bike, over the shoulder of a tall-bike riding carboard knight (by Michael)
Jeebus, looking through Doug's pictures is taking forever and I'm trying to get down to Frankenbike early to buy all the good shit before y'all show up. If you want to see more go to their galleries. Great ride y'all! Can't wait 'till next month.
... seemed to lose most of the people leaving the parking garage somehow, and the people I didn't lose seemed to not know where to go either ...
As for taking all the pictures, making you late to Frankenbike so I can get all the early deals was all part of my evil plan! Looks like it worked too!
In any event, there were cameras everywhere -- even people not in the ride were taking lots of pictures, so I expect to see a lot more of them pop up.
(And yes, there was a tall bike crash but I don't think anybody was hurt. I also saw a wipeout in the parking garage, but all that happened there was that lights went flying ...)
Jose also has some good photos, and further down his photostream he's got some unicycle football pictures, too!
Thanks for checking the photos out! It was a great ride...And if you've never experienced or heard of the Unicycle Football League in San Marcos, I highly recommend you check it out. My friend Marcus started this a couple years ago and it's expanded to four teams in the area. They play every Sunday at Tantra Coffeehouse.
