ATXBS bike check #1 - The BMX of DEATH
As most of you who know me have realized, rather than specialize in one discipline I've gone the other route and have decided to ride everything, albeit poorly. I'm a slow-poke roadie, a clumsy mountain biker, a semi-competent single-speeder, a painfully bad BMXer, a teetering tall-biker, and I can make my fixed gear bike go forward real fast and skid, but not much else. The point is, I've got a whole stable of varied bikes, and I figured it was time to show 'em off.
Here's the first in a series of ATXBS bike checks. This is my 20" on which I've been having entirely too much fun over my lunch breaks, and from which I've accumulated a good number of scars:
'07 Mutiny Nocturnal 21" frame (raw and rusted)
Odyssey Hazard Lite wheelset, 11t driver, classic stem, dirt fork, purple PC pedals
Macneil Capital Seat and OG pivotal post
FBM seatpost clamp
Primo Excel cranks and E brake
Mutiny Mid BB guts
Profile 30t chainring
Fit Sky High bars (cut to 27")
Dia Compe Dirty Harry lever
FSA Orbital integrated headset
KMC Z610 chain (gold)
Animal GLH tires and Edwin grips
I cobbled this bike together over last spring from Craigslist finds, the occasional Frankenbike bit, and a few finishing touches from Empire BMX, who just so happen to be HQ'd right here in Austin. I'm no good on a 20" but I am getting better and have been seeing some progression in my riding/jumping skills over the past few months. Next step is to take this thing down to the pump track and give that shit a go. I've been having way too much fun on this bike lately. If only I could go further distances, I'd definitely ride it even more often but as it stands unless I'm driving this bike to ride somewhere or just hopping a bus, it's difficult to get around on if I'm going more than 10-15 miles. I guess them's the breaks as far as 20" is concerned.
I'll try to post the rest of my stable over the next few weeks. Part of my motivation is just to show off my bikes because I love them so, but another part is to document the builds of my bikes in case some other James Clayton-wannabe comes along and decides to get froggy.
Oh shit, it's almost lunch time. RIDE!
10-15 miles? dont be a pussy
fixed gears are like butt holes, every one has one.
I've done a couple of the full moon cruises and critical mass rides on this bike, and that was on top of the 9 miles downtown from my house and however many miles back from wherever the ride ends. My problem is that by the time I've done over 15 miles I'm too freaking beat to do anything but pedal or coast, forget jumping off shit. I'm trying to man up and just deal with it but ask Todd of the Aautbruac crowd, I can be a wuss sometimes!
the bmx needs MOAR GOATSE!!!
