Second arrest in high-dollar bike thefts

From the Austin Police Department:

The Austin Police Department’s South Central Area Command Detectives have made an additional arrest in the high-dollar bike thefts. Layne Severson, (DOB: 10-15-79) has been charged with Money Laundering, a State Jail Felony and has been booked into Travis County jail on a $5,000 bond.

Detectives learned that Severson owned an online payment account. The proceeds from the sale of the stolen property were deposited into this account which was connected to Severson’s checking account.

James Clayton was arrested on Tuesday Feb. 3, 2009 in connection with this case.

NICE! So it sounds like the (alleged) Bicycle Super-Villain has a sidekick: Laundering Boy Girl! (oops, I've been corrected by the mojos) Oddly enough, Layne Severson was the ONLY person who actually stood up for James Clayton back when I posted the original craigslist bicycle thief "ad" on anything more personal than a "hey you might not want to have a libel case thrown at you" basis. Here was her message to me, sent the day of my original posting:

Jason,
Could you please remove the blog post referring to the craigslist add about James Clayton being a bike thief? Craigslist has removed the posting. Since it is unproven, unsubstantiated rumor at this point I would appreciate it if you could leave this matter up to the person who suspects James stole from him and the police.

Nice try, Layne! I guess she tipped off James because almost exactly an hour later (at 4:20pm, heh) the following message from a certain Mr. Clayton joined it:

Yo man can you take the bike thief story from Craigslist off your site...It would mean a great deal to quite a few people.. Anyway the faster the better....

So now there are TWO people in jail over this, which makes me curious as to who else is involved in this madness. I also wonder who ratted on Layne..

Guess James isn't digging his jail time. I'd make a comment about shaved legs, a cyclists' ass, and the hardcore rep of a bike thief not working in his favor on the inside, but... oh wait, I just did.
