Court date set for (alleged) bicycle super-villain James Clayton!
Much thanks to one of the (alleged) victims for forwarding me this notice from the TXBRA forums:
Court Date for James Clayton posted by get him the max on 2/24/2009 8:25:00 AM.
According to the Travis County Website http://www.co.travis.tx.us/courts/files/dockets/dockets_Criminal.asp
Mr James Clayton the Bike Thief will be going to court on Friday March 6th, 2009 at 9 a.m. at the 299th District Court
http://www.co.travis.tx.us/courts/criminal/district/299.aspHe's being charged with the following offenses:
3 Counts of Burglary of a habitation
2 Counts of theft between $1,500 and $20,000Someone more familiar with the court system can maybe chime in and let us know if this is when the jury will be making their decision or if this is just a day they will actually set the jury trial date.
What I really want to say is that we as the cycling community should all show up to any court appearances that Mr. Clayton has to make. This can make a big impression on the jury and judge when there's hundreds of people sitting in the court room wanting this guy put behind bars. This happened to someone in Phoenix who was caught stealing bike parts from Titus. Lots of people showed up to his sentencing and he got the maximum possible penalty.
I've gotta work but if anyone's going to this PLEASE let me know. I'd love to hear how it went, and if a bunch of cyclists showed up and gave him the stink-eye all morning long, it'd really make my day.
