I just got word from my friend on the inside that the Safe Passing Bill (SB 488) hearing scheduled for tomorow morning is probably being delayed, so if you had your suit pressed out and your testimony rehearsed, hold on to 'em:

Hey there, got some news for you, if you haven't already heard. The Committee of the Whole Senate (last time it met was for redistricting in '03) is currently discussing the voter ID bill. democrats are making a symbolic stand and putting up a verbal fight, but in the end they're fighting a losing battle. Anyway, all of the back forth is expected to last until after midnight tonight. In the event that it runs til 10pm tonight, the Transportation and Homeland Security weekly meeting will be canceled, since it's so early in the morning.

I will be keeping an eye on this hearing all day (and night). If they pass 10pm, I'll let you know. It's a ninety percent chance that they will, unfortunately. I would just hate to see all the cycling community show up tomorrow and the meeting isnt even happening.

I'll keep y'all posted so check back for more details later, but for the time-being things look like they'll be delayed. Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Willa! Also thanks for the latest addition to our ATXBS Wall of Shame. The new police chief asked us all to call 311 (or 911 if our lives are threatened) and report the license plates/descriptions of harassing drivers as we record them so if anyone else runs into a Wall of Shame nominee, please call the cops. If nothing else it'll create a record of the incident and associate a specific license plate with bad behavior. Enough incidences from the same driver and who knows what the cops might do...

I used to make the mistake of reporting shitty drivers for road rage or moving violations. Art Acevedo made it pretty clear that this behavior is assault with a deadly weapon, and should be reported and treated as one.
