Devon posted the following on MySpace and as a lot of people have been asking on his well-being I figured I'd post this here and then direct everyone this-a-way:

Updates for Friday

Good news.

Yesterday's CT scan showed that the blood clot in his head had grown about 1mm, but this morning's CT showed it hadn't gotten any bigger, so the docs are ruling out him having to have holes drilled in his noggin'.

Also, the orbital fracture of his eye socket is small enough that it won't need surgery to repair, just time.

Annnnd, when I left the hospital 30 minutes ago, we were waiting on the orthopedic surgeon to stop by and decide whether he needs surgery or not to repair his collar bone. From what I was told in the ER after it all happened, his collar bone is pretty crushed, and Caden says he can feel the bones move around in it when he touches it. Yikes.

So, hopefully, by the end of today he'll be moved out of ICU and into a normal room. Which will allow people to visit. In ICU the policy on visitors is strict. They didn't even let his Mom back last night for a little while.

Today he's pretty much been sleeping the entire time. I was with him from 10-2 and I bet he barely said 15 words. He's pretty morphined up so that keeps him groggy. If he gets moved to a normal room, they'll start weaning him off the morphine, so hopefully he'll be more up to visitors then. I'll keep ya'll posted. I know there's tons of folks out there wanting to check in on him. And I know visitors will definetly cheer him up when the morphine runs out :)

Alright...onto work...if I still have a job. I hope I can leave early. Why did everyone I work with decide to take vacation in February? Who does that? Anyway, my Mom is staying with him right now until his Dad gets off. And I'll be back up there just as soon as I can.

Thanks to everyone who's sent their support and kind words. Caden has a world of friends out there, a world of great friends.

you guys wont even broach the subject of wearing a helmet. Too bad...this is what happens ... Hope he has a speedy recovery!

Helmets, like condoms, are a personal decision between you and your loved ones. (if any) Normally, I'd wear one (a helmet) when riding fast or close with newbies and fast guy wannabes. If I'm going out for a "cruise" with bike-as-lifestyle types and fixie riders who presumably have some riding skills... Never.

Besides, I like to think I can spot the rider who's gonna take me down before he/she crosses my wheels.

Yeah they do manage to make themselves easy to spot. Kinda like peacocks and their plumage in that regard. "Bike-as-lifestyle types", I like that. :)

Many of the regular posters (myself included) wear helmets regularly. When I'm in town I tend not to but when I'm contending with cars going 55+mph in the hill country and big climbs and descents you better believe I do.

It's true that a helmet might have kept him from hurting himself as severely but many times I see helmet wearers with a poor fitting helmet, or a helmet with an undone strap, or a helmet pushed back so far that it's not really doing them any good whatsoever. A helmet's not a magic bullet for head injuries but yes, they do prevent some.

Thanks for bringing it up. I tend not to due to the rabid pro- or anti-helmet arguments that tend to ensue, but it is a valid point and one applicable to the situation.

Im not rabid pro-helmet really. I dont always wear a helmet but, yeah, if Im riding with a group of guys riding real fast and real close together -- some on fixies -- in the dark, then Im probably gonna wear a helmet.
