Bike Month is approaching and Russell NEEDS your help!
I have the best news for everybody. Usually the masters-class crowd of the Austin Cycling Association organizes the "Official" Bike Month Calendar of all the bicycle-related events in the month of May, which means that they include a lot of helmet-required rec rides that happen out-of-town, and miss all the good shit that goes down right under their noses. Well, this year is a little different, because they're putting the organization of Bike Month in the hands of freaks like us! Russell Pickavance, one of the stars of the Yellow Bike Project and an extraordinary bike mechanic in his own right is going to be doing all the organization and planning for the entire month of May, as it regards "official" Bike Month events. Rather than just do it the way they've always done it, instead he's looking for YOUR input. Yes, you; the organizers of pub crawls, moon light cruzes, taco runs, 6-pack tours, Critical Mass participants, and all the other odd bikers who make up the more colorful contingent of the Austin cycling community. And when I say colorful I'm not necessarily referring to their matching kit. Here's his request, verbatim:
Bike Month is creeping and we need some cool shit for the Bike Month Guide 2009.

Spotlight all the stuff in town. What I need is for you to blast over the enter web that we are looking for submissions.
Here is what we need.
Little poems, cartoons, small stories about why you love your bike, anything creative. All submissions will be read, all will not be published. We also need listings for any and all events that are happening, big or small to be included on our calendar. If you are throwing a party in May and you ride a bike it can go in this publication. Can you please spread the word and tell all the other bloggers, and writers, and photographers and such that the call is out. I don't have time to do it and you already have the tools.
Thanks Jason. Let me know if you need more info.
Submissions should be sent to bikemonth@austincycling.org
Submission deadline: April 15th.Russell
So if you're hosting ANYTHING at all relating to bicycling, please get your information in to Russell no later than April 15th. If you're an artist or writer and have a penchant for bicycles, get those creative juices flowing! Bike Month 2009 is going to be dynamite, I can tell already.
