James Clayton's hearing scheduled for TOMORROW MORNING! SHOW UP!

One of the local bicycle superheroes just forwarded this information to me, provided by Det. Sheldon Askew of the APD:

Hello, This is to inform you of the upcoming hearing set for Wednesday, tommorrow at 9AM at the Travis County Courthouse.

The 299th is the court that Clayton’s cases are assigned to and yes it is downtown on 10th and Guadalupe (the new one, taller one of the two). As for the time yes, the 9am time is a start time for the court. The judge will likely hear other cases prior to hearing this case. Hope this helps ya.

If you are able to attend and feel that is would serve a purpose please feel free to!! The following are the current charges that have been placed on James Clayton. Innocent until proven guilty as I always say!

James has been in jail ever since he was apprehended back in mid-December. Apparently he had two outstanding felony warrants for his arrest (bike theft related) back in Arizona with full extridiction. He failed to appear in court on those charges and skipped town. Thus once they caught up with him here in Austin, he could not be released on bail.

Most likely the judge will look at the docket for the day on Wednesday and organize the cases for the remainder of the day. No one knows exactly when his case will be heard or even if it will be heard at all on Wednesday. Stealing bicycles hardly ranks up there with more serious crimes. But if we as a cycling community do not show our presence and support for justice in this case James will most likely get off pretty easy, according to one of the detectives on the case.

If anyone gives a damn about keeping this (alleged) bike thief off the streets of our or any other town and has some free-time Wednesday, PLEASE show up to this case.
