Cross Club #7 - This time it's on a SATURDAY
Fresh off the presses:
Hey buddies.
I'm calling out a race this weekend. BUT, since my Sundays have gotten busier and complicated, and it looks like there's nothing else on the calendar for that night, I'm calling Saturday night. Hope this isn't a problem for those of you that race. Here's the details:
Name: *Cross Club #7*
Date: Saturday, April 11
Time: 8 pm
Start/finish: Lamar Ped Bridge
Fee: $5
Duration: Hour or so
Prizes: Lots
Spectator-friendly: Always - BRING FRIENDS!! Friends with cameras and cowbells!Ok, so I think it would be real cool to make this one HUGE. See what you can do.
Next - I need help with a predicament that I can't seem to solve...
I built 2 stages for the roller races that I helped organize during SXSW and now I can't seem to find them a home. I have pretty much come to terms with the fact that I won't be getting the $150 back that I spent on them, and I'm ok with that, but seems real silly to just throw them away. They could use a little fine tuning before I would consider them permanent structures, but they are very sound for temp use - it's what they were built for. Anyway - if anyone knows of a bar or anywhere else that could use one or both of them, drop me a note or call (576-5849) and we can work it out. If I don't hear anything by the end of the week, I'll just have MJ's donate them or whatever. Here're the specs:
Height: 19"
Length: 6'
Width: 8'
Weight: Pretty heavyThe legs are 4x4's, deck is inbetween 1/2" and 3/4" plywood, most everything else is 2" x 6". All but a few pieces are new lumber - the rest are pieces taken out of the T1 ramp during maintenance, so they have a bit of soul built right in!
Give me a shout if you questions or comments about the race or if you have a home for my stages.
Hope to see you all soon,

- Eddy Merckxp.s. For those of you who have never attended a Cross Club race - it is NOT an alleycat. There are no checkpoints, silly hats, drawn on mustaches or anything else like that. It is pretty much cyclocross racing, without the barriers or mud, done on the urban trails around Austin. Thus far it has been pretty much all hike 'n bike trail and Shoal Creek trail. It will expand a bit in the next month or so. Point is - bring as much traction as you can, wear a helmet if you have one, and BRING LIGHTS!
p.p.s. Thanks to everyone for coming to those roller races! That was such an awesome night. The Coldsprints kids already have plans to come back next year.
That's the word, thunderbird. Get out there on the Lamar Ped bridge this Saturday and race or cheer!
